National Association of

Space Simulating Educators

The mission of NASSE (National Association of Space Simulating Educators) is to promote the use of space simulations in schools throughout the country and around the world. As a member of NASSE, we believe that simulations give students and educators versatile opportunities for creating innovative and highly motivating learning experiences.

NASSE'S GOALS are to:

  1. Assist and support teachers interested in developing reality-based space simulations

  2. Provide consultation services to teachers and schools regarding the use of space simulations in space science education

  3. Provide assistance regarding sources of free or low cost resources and materials from the aerospace community, government organizations, and information providers.

  4. Facilitate the exchange of ideas, information and technical enhancements among educators using simulations.

  5. Encourage the use of telecommunications, videoconferencing, and the world wide web as tools for enhancing space science simulations.

  6. Support the initiative for space exploration including projects by government and other agencies.

Starting July 2007, the Spaceflight Institute™ will offer all-new one and two-week camp programs in both Prince Georges and Ann Arundel County (MD).  Additional locations will be announced later this fall. Students will have fun learning about rocketry, space shuttle science, and the exploration of the planets.

The Spaceflight Institute™ offers an intensive program of learning, confidence building, and teamwork within a space motif. The Spaceflight Institute
brings to life the importance of math and science, builds confidence through genuine opportunities for achievement, and offers a fun and stimulating place for kids to learn and grow. The program can be an initial experience for beginning students or a continuation of space science studies for those who have already completed one or more summers.

The Spaceflight Institute™ is designed for students with a high interest in the area of space exploration. The program is organized into multiple levels of achievement with each level having its own set of skills and objectives. Space Flight certificates are awarded upon the completion of the program.

This year, we will be offering three new programs:

  • Space Adventure (for grades K-2)

  • Space Adventure (for grades 3-5) and

  • Space Explorer (for grades 6+)

If you are interested in holding a Spaceflight Institute program in your area in 2007, contact us for more information.

The National Student

Sounding Rocket Program

for Students in Grades 1 - College/University

The National Student Sounding Rocket Program (NS-SRP™) was developed by Volanz Aerospace Inc. in cooperation with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), as an educational outreach program for United States-based students of all ages (1st Grade through College/University level), and is designed to foster interest in the areas of space science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. With the help of a teacher or mentor, one (or more) students create, design and build an experiment and submit a proposal for the opportunity to fly it on a Sounding Rocket launched from the NASA Wallops Flight Facility (WFF) in Virginia. Experiments are qualified for the program through a flight certification process that includes an experiment proposal review.

Proposals are accepted throughout the year, and experiments are typically launched twice a year.
